PPL(A)

The PPL(A) (Private Pilots Licence) course is the building block of your flying journey. We offer an incredibly high standard of flight instruction with our dedicated team to help you along the way.


The completion of this course will issue you with a CAA Private Pilot's Licence which will allow you to fly single engined light aircraft. This licence will also allow you to add ratings like the IR(R) and night rating to further enhance your flying experience.


The PPL(A) course requires students to complete a minimum of 40 flight hours under instruction.

10 out of the 40 hours will be monitored solo flights and one of these flights must be a solo navigational exercise.

In addition to the above, students must complete a total of 9 invigilated ground examinations and a radiotelephony  oral examination.

Finally, students will be required to complete a final skills test conducted by one of the CAA examiners we have on the team.


Prior requirements:


Whilst there is no upper age limit, the current minimum age for a licence to be issued is 17 years old - you can still undergo training before your 17th birthday.


The PPL(A) course also requires you to hold at least a class 2 medical certificate.

The PPL(A) starter package is the perfect way to ease into your flight journey. Included in the starter package are the following items:


  • Up to 5hrs of dual flight instruction in a Piper PA28**
  • Up to 2hrs of ground instruction**
  • Silver flight club membership during your PPL(A) training
  • Oxford Airport Landing Fees
  • PPL(A) book 1
  • Pilots Logbook
  • Aircraft Checklist

Basic PPL(A)

The basic PPL(A) course is more cost effective but still provides the same level of enjoyment as the premium package. Included in the basic PPL(A) package is the following:


  • Up to 40hrs flight instruction in a Piper PA28**
  • Up to 5hrs ground instruction**
  • 9 ground exams*
  • 1 radio practical exam*
  • 1 skills test*
  • Oxford Airport Landing Fees
  • Silver flight club membership during your PPL(A) training


Our basic PPL(A) course is payable in 8 installments of £2,080 spead over the duration of your course.
